Doctor Gerard Furlong has spent nearly 20 years in the medical profession working as an anaesthetist in several hospitals in England and Northern Ireland.
Ged Furlong was trained at St Bartholomew’s college hospital where he was a highly regarded sportsman who represented the college skiing team, played rugby for the Veterans rugby union team and was also a member of the college rowing team. In his time at St Bart’s he was also a prominent member of the sailing club an interest that he still pursues to this day.
The anaesthetist Gerard Furlong has spent time working
on the Trauma ward of Dunganon hospital in Northern
Ireland as well as working in the ICU and obstetrics
ward at Coventry and Warwick hospital. He has also
spent several years training and lecturing junior
anaesthetists while at this hospital.
Gerard Furlong has been a member of several notable
professional societies during his career and is still
a regular contributor of articles on the subject of
anaesthesia to journals. He is a member of The Intensive
Care Society, DAS (Difficult Airways Society and also
SCATA (Society for Computers And Technology in Anaesthesia).
He has recently contributed to a project involving
Drs Mark Hurrell and Senthil Kuraman which was concerned
with developing and creating a HL 7 CDA implementation
guide.
Away from the world of medicine Ged Furlong has several
private business interests and a range of hobbies
to fill his time. He is still a keen sportsman although
these days he prefers playing cards to rugby. He has
two golden Labradors that he can often be seen walking
in the fields and hills near his home.
